Family Summer Bucket List

May 26, 2022

Summer is approaching fast and as parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and everything in between, you may have to think of some ideas to entertain the kids while they are home from school. We know it can be hard to think of things every day to keep everyone happy and active, so here is a list of ideas for the summer that the whole family will enjoy!

Family Game Night

This will be perfect for one of those rainy summer nights when there seems to be nothing to do. There are so many different options for games to entertain the entire family, no matter the ages. You can even add in prizes for the winner. For example, store gift cards and candy. Take the opportunity to teach the family a new game, or just stick to the ones you know they enjoy!

Backyard Camping

You don’t have to go far! Pick a clear night to lay under the stars with your family. Set up tents, pillows and blankets, and it will feel like a real camping trip in your own backyard. This is a great way to get kids outside and off their electronics. To keep the activities going until bed time, light a bon fire and make s’mores.

Beach Day

We are so fortunate that most of us live so close to a beach! Take advantage and make a day of it! It’s something the kids will love and you will love it too! The fun doesn’t stop at the beach either. From mini golf to arcades, the opportunities are endless to keep the whole family happy.

Picnic Outside

Pick your favorite park or just set it up in your backyard! Put together some of the family’s favorite drinks and snacks and lay a blanket down wherever you prefer. This can be a fun way to spend time together in the beautiful weather. We suggest bringing games like frisbee, or even water balloons to combat the summer heat!

Movie Night

For one of the rainy days when everyone is tired from all of the summer fun…make a list of movies with your family that you want to watch and have a movie marathon! Have the family make a list of movies they want to watch before the marathon begins so it is a no brainer for the rest of the day. Have some snacks ready before pressing play to ensure you will be able to sit back and relax as well.

Treasure Hunt

For the younger bunch, this can be a great way of getting them engaged in something that will keep them busy for hours. Hide little treasures throughout the house or outside and let them search around. You can hide candies, toys, etc.

Create a Family Scrapbook

This will be a great idea to create something that will last a lifetime! Give them control over what the scrapbook will look like and what pictures they decide to include in it. Pick up stickers, different colored paper, and markers to give them freedom to decorate the book however they want. Father’s day is coming up so this may be the perfect gift!

Decorate Cookies

For less of a mess, bake the cookies first and let them cool off. Then let the family go crazy! There are so many different frostings and sprinkles that you can buy to  let the whole family decorate the cookies just how they like! To make things more interesting, you can even have a competition at the end to see who wins the best looking cookie.

We hope this gives you some ideas on how to keep things interesting this summer! Thinking of real activities to get the whole family engaged will be a great way to make life long memories! No matter how simple the adventure is on your Summer Bucket List, remember the goal is just to have fun!
